Finasteride (Propecia/Finpecia)

Finasteride is a drug that has been approved to treat male pattern baldness since 1997.
Finasteride works by inhibiting the process of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) formation. DHT is the hormone synthesized from testosterone in the hair follicles, prostate, adrenal glands and testes.

Because of this, Finasteride is very effective in stopping hormone related hair loss and even reversing the process to a degree. The benefits and risks of Finasteride will be explained thoroughly during your consultation as well as what dose would be best for your individual situation.

Dutasteride (Avodart)

Dutasteride is a stronger DHT blocker than Finasteride and can be useful for patients that have excess DHT or when Finasteride is not strong enough to stop hair loss.

Minoxidil

Minoxidil was originally used to treat high blood pressure. As a side effect, patients who took Minoxidil did not seem to suffer from as much hair loss. It was then discovered that Minoxidil could be used to treat hair loss. The results were significant and it is now a known fact that minoxidil is an FDA approved treatment for hair loss.
